CHICAGOIn 2002, 47th Black Wall Street, Chicago Chairman Bobbie Johnson voiced the need for more public support to save the historic Michigan Boulevard Garden Apartments (Rosenwald).

She suggested that people should support the efforts of community activist and preservationist. Before you could say, "greased palms," architects, planners, lawyers, preservationists, developers, and housing experts organized a special committee to create plan to save the historic structure.

3rd Ward Alderman Pat Dowell approves $100,000,000.00 (one hundred million dollar) affordable housing economic development project on 47th Street in Bronzeville, Chicago.

The plan incorporates the conversion of current public housing, park space, historical markers, vacant lots, commercial spaces and historic structures into a "revitalized" residential historic district.

The Michigan Boulevard Garden Apartments (Rosenwald) is not just another development project but is an initiative that can serve to showcase responsible redevelopment, redevelopment that does not compromise or minimize but preserves return on investment, community culture and community ownership.

It is an initiative that establishes a standard of public, private and community partnerships capable of leading the nation in the rebuilding of viable communities with sustainable economies.
